Style Basics for Men

Why Style Matters

You wake up. You check your phone. You shower—hopefully. You brush your teeth. Then comes the first decision of your day. What are you going to use to conceal your nakedness? Do you grab whatever is most comfortable or do you put more thought into it? Does it matter?

People use many things to aid them in forming judgments about other people—and a lot of it is subconscious. A good posture may indicate someone who is confident and bold. Rough hands may suggest a hard worker. A soft voice signals a kind person. For thousands of years people have been judged based on the garb they wore, so maybe your wardrobe deserves more thought an energy than you are currently giving it.

A Quick Word for the Women

I’m no expert in women’s fashion. However, I have been selling women’s clothing for over two years now, and I have a few things to say. First and foremost, there is way more out there than athleisure. Lululemon is great for working out but you don’t need to wear it 24/7. Women have infinitely more styles to play with than men do, so try some things out.

The every-woman’s outfit.

Something better.

Back to the men…

A Rule That Will Instantly Make your Style 50% Better

NO GRAPHIC T-SHIRTS!

That’s the rule. Do me a favor and google something like “most stylish men” and go to the images. Go ahead and scroll through and tell me when you find the first graphic t-shirt—I got bored after a couple minutes.

It’s simple. Wear basic shirts and tops. No logos. No graphics. You look like a child or a billboard while wearing a graphic t-shirt. Avoid at all costs.

Honestly his shirt says it all.

Simple.

A good physique is also very important, as made clear by the pictures above. The better your physique looks, the better your clothes will look on you.

Make Sure your Fit Fits

The most foundational aspect of style is making sure your clothes fit you correctly. This means your shirt should fit snug but not tight, hug the middle of your biceps, and fall just below the waist of your pants. Your jeans and pants should be straight or slim, not baggy. Most men buy their clothing a size too big.

Right-Good

Shoes

Having a nice pair of shoes on will make you stand out from 95% of men. They are all wearing the same thing. Sneakers and athletic shoes. Nice Nikes bro. A nice pair of boots or monk straps will set you apart and make your outfit look one hundred times better. I recommend every guy invest in the following.

-A pair of black oxfords or monk strap shoes

-A pair of brown oxfords or monk strap shoes

-A pair of boots

– A pair of white leather sneakers

Fuck your Jordans. They look like shit.

The every-man shoes.

You.

Just Because It’s Expensive Doesn’t Mean it Looks Good

One thing barring most guys from dressing better is the notion that it costs a lot of money to look good—and on the other side of the coin, some guys think they look good because they spent $300 on their graphic t-shirt. Both of these ideas are wrong. Cheap and simple beats expensive and flashy 9 times out of 10.

Expensive must look good, right???

Simple wins.
